Summer School 2021

The Deepings School Summer School July 26th – July 30th 2021

Our recent summer school was open to students through invite in the following 3 phases:

  • Those students deemed as benefitting from spending extra time with the school by their primary schools
  • Those joining our school from their primary school by themselves (the only student joining)
  • Those joining our school from their primary school as a pair (no more than 2 students joining us)
  • A total of 45 students accepted places on the summer school

The Programme for the Summer School.

The programme was run over 5 consecutive days at the beginning of the school summer holidays.

Activities were focussed on the following threads:

  • Traditional transition focussed activities – tours, timetables, site orienteering, meeting and interacting with school staff
  • Additional subject support – activities in English and Maths, including work in the computer rooms and school library.  Science activities in the labs was also built in to expose students to the great facilities
  • Sports based activities including trampolining
  • Arts based activities including; Drama sessions, technology and art sessions in specialist facilities
  • Wellbeing and pastoral activities that included; kindness based work, board game speed dating, Drama activities, All About Me completion and the traditional transition style activities


The school claimed for funding to the total cost of: £13098.32

The funding was to cover the following costs:

  • Staffing costs - including;
    •  8 staff working full time throughout the week, of which there were 2 Teaching Assistant’s and 1 Safeguarding Lead
    • 4 staff that worked for part of the week and were specific specialists such as the Science Teacher and Librarian
    • Cleaner to ensure spaces were COVID clean
    • Catering staff
  • Other costs incurred that funding was sought for:
    • Catering – food to provide students with lunch and a breaktime snack
    • Resources for students – a refillable plastic water bottle per child and a pencil case with resources they may need throughout the week and when starting the school in September
    • Photocopying for session resources, certificates for celebration, maps, timetables and copies of the students summer school newsletter they produced as a keep sake
