Local Governor Profiles

Bridget Holland

Chair of Local Governing Body

I have been working in schools as a governor for 18 years.  For the last 13 years I have been Chair of Governors.  During this time I have been a member of the Governors Leadership Group in Peterborough and have built a skill set that has enabled me to become a member of two IEBs locally.  I have also mentored three Chairs of Governors who were new to the role and were experiencing difficulties.

In my time as a governor, I have worked with two Principals and have successfully led a governing body through an appointment process.  I have also worked with the school Senior Leadership Team to successfully take a school from RI to Good.

Through my five years at The Deepings School, I have developed a good understanding of teaching and learning, as well as experience in the pastoral field, supporting our students. I have a very calm and patient personality and am able to listen well to the opinions of others and analyse data, before making a reasoned decision using evidence provided.

I am a reflective and evaluative individual, both within my teaching practice and decisions as a middle leader.  Alongside this, I am not afraid to challenge and critique ideas in a constructive and productive manner where needed.

I worked at The Deepings School from 1989 - 2007; where I held the position of Deputy Head.  On retirement I volunteered with LCFC as a Community Officer.

I would like to be a supportive presence and critical friend as The Deepings School moves forward.  I have a willingness to listen and explore solutions utilising my 20 years of experience of senior management in schools.

Since retiring I have become more involved in the local community.  I am a Trustee of the Youth Group, a volunteer at the Police station and a Parish Councillor.

I have planning, preparation and organisational skills.  These together with listening, questioning and previous experience of being on a scrutiny panel, reviewing targets, understanding figures and statistics will help me to support the school.

Tim Hutton

Vice-Chair of Local Governing Body

My experience both through my career and as a volunteer have given me the skills required to be successful in this role.  I was a Teacher Governor of a secondary school for 10 years and have been a parent Governor for the last 7 years (5 as Chair of Governors).  These roles have given me an understanding of all aspects of governance including finance and curriculum.  My career as a teacher and senior leader in secondary and further education gave me vast experience of school improvement process and of the Ofsted inspection regime.  It further allowed me to exercise my ability to self-evaluate and strategically plan.

Helen Morgan

I have an interest in education and have two children who attend the school. I have a desire to support the school and to benefit the wider community.

I was branch secretary and events coordinator at a local CIPS branch and have lectured in CIPS at Peterborough Technical College.  I have helped with literacy support at William Hildyard school for 5 years.  I am an active campaigner for the community library and organised the first Deepings Literary festival.

Fiona Litman

I have the unique perspective of being a parent of the school and also a staff member. It is important that support staff are represented within the Governing Body. I am interested in seeing how the school will improve.

I am a good communicator, able to speak to people on all levels.I have a knowledge of the school procedures and policies, but also a good knowledge of children legislation.  I am involved in the school community.  This year I am the Musical Director for the school musical.

Kate Shinkins-Hoppe

I am interested in education; having worked at both Primary and Early Years Levels.  I recently left full-time employment and would enjoy having an opportunity to learn about KS3 and beyond.

I am used to working in committees and so am able to make decisions on the information available.  I enjoy the challenge of dealing with problems, finding solutions and resolutions.  I am usually very well organised and can managed a full diary well.

Rachel Stewart

I attended The Deepings School as a student and would like to 'give back' to the school by offering support to both the school and Governing Body.

I am an Independent Financial Adviser.  I have industry qualifications and 30 years experience in this sector which I feel is beneficial to this role.

I have run my own business for 14 years, so I feel I can offer numerous qualities; we employ staff, deal with all aspects of HR, management etc.  In addition, in the day to day running of the company, I have experience of problem solving, planning, setting tasks etc.

Having been a parent at the school for the past 5 years, I have taken an active interest in the sucess of the school, its pupils and staff.  I am not shy of engaging with the school, but I see this as a positive engagement by a parent looking to support the school in its endeavours.

I have a range of skills including time mangement, organisation, prioritisation and self-motivation.  I have good inter-personal skills in addition my professional skills.  I have held voluntary positions and have a keen interest in current affairs and the local community.
