Trampoliners Reach National FinalsBack to News
On the 19th February the Deeping School took six male students to compete at the Zonal trampoline event held at Loughborough Leisure Centre. These students had previously been selected from the Regional schools competition back in December, the students had to finish in the top 3 individuals or the top 2 teams to be selected.
The Zonal event saw schools travel from as far as South Wales to compete, so for many it was a very early start. Each student had to perform a set routine and a voluntary routine of their choice. If the pupils once again finished within the top 3 individually and the top 2 teams they would be selected for the National Schools Final to be held in March up in Gateshead.
Ben Gregson competed in the U13 novice event where the competition was tough, he was up against 32 competitors. With consistent 7’s Ben finished in 8th position, there was only ½ point separating him from 3rd position.
The School entered a team of 4 in the U15 novice category, made up of individual finalist Matt Anzivino and his team members Sam Malton, Matt Strenge and Jack Webster. The boys were up against another 4 teams, 2 of which were very strong. However will flawless routines from the Deeping boys they finished in a solid 2nd, so they are off to Nationals! Well done boys, now the real training starts!
The Schools 6th competitor was the baby in his category as he is only 15 but was competing in the U19 Elite category. Jamie Skinner was up against trampolinist’s who had previously taken part in world events, this didn’t faze him though. His routine was controlled and skilful. Jamie finished in 8th position which is a promising start for him in such a strong category.
A massive well done to all of the boys that took part on the day, their routines could not have been grumbled at. We wish the U15 team the very best of luck at the Nationals, what an achievement!
