Athletics season is here – bring on the rain, hail and howling winds!!! The first meet of the year took place in Boston with fourteen schools entering students into the trials. For the first time, year 7 students were also invited to compete in some events. The top three from all schools in each event will be representing Lincolnshire on the 6th June. The programme of events were only slightly interrupted by the weather conditions!!

The Deepings School entered twenty athletes into a variety of different events and produced some fantastic results. Lizzie Wright (year 8) produced a fantastic performance in the junior girls’ competition qualifying for the next round. Hannah Knight in year 7 and Caitlin Back in year 9 qualified in third place in the 800m in their respective races. Nathan Pickering (year 9) had a great day at the office qualifying in the Javelin, 200m and 300m as did Scott Waumsley (year 10) making the grade in Hurdles and High jump. A very well done to Megan Williams in her very first competition who qualified in the 100m, Shot Putt and Long jump!!

All the athletes showed enthusiasm, determination and were a credit to their respective schools. The weather conditions were far from ideal, but they all rolled up their sleeves and did their best. Well done to all who competed; the first of many competitions this season.
