Tragic NewsBack to News
Following a tragic event at the end of February we are deeply saddened to announce that Lucy Jessop one of our Year 13 students died of a heart attack whilst exercising with a friend.
Lucy had been a student at The Deepings School since September 2008. She was a very popular and intelligent young woman who secured excellent GCSE results. She was also a member of the school’s Gifted and Able cohort. She continued into our Sixth Form where she studied Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics at AS level. In Year 13 she had continued to study Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. Lucy’s plan was to go to University to study Pharmaceutical Science. She had received offers from all five of the Universities to which she had applied, and was in the process of deciding her top two choices.
Lucy was an excellent ambassador for the school regularly taking on posts of responsibility. She was also an outstanding role model for younger students. She maintained a part time job at her local pub, where she enjoyed interacting with customers, as waitress and barmaid. She was an extremely friendly and enthusiastic member of our Sixth Form, enjoying a wide circle of friends. Lucy had become keen on fitness and would often visit the gym with friends.
In her university application, Lucy referred to the vital role played by the Pharmacist and how she hoped to be in a position to pursue this very rewarding career. She certainly had the potential to achieve her goal, and was excited by the thought of moving onto the next stage in her education.
Lucy was an amazing person who is much loved by her family and friends, looked up to by her peers and respected by the staff. Her positive, pro-active, intelligent and caring approach to life will be missed by all of us. We have committed to honouring her memory by living our lives to the full.
The school is devastated by the news of Lucy’s death and extends heartfelt condolences to her family.
