Dear Families of The Deepings School

This week I have seen students working very hard in lessons when I have been walking around the school.  In particular, our Year 11 and Year 13 students have really impressed me with their superb approach to their studies.  At the end of the month there will be a second round of Pre Public Examinations (PPEs/mocks), which are excellent preparation for the summer exams.  Year 11 have all received communication regarding additional, bespoke intervention sessions which they are invited to which will support their outcomes.  Attendance has been phenomenal to these sessions this week.  The maths department alone had over 100 students stay after school this week to focus on their learning.  Well done to all students and staff for their commitment to this additional programme of study.

As expected, our newly launched rewards system has been very positively received by all.  The rewards store goes ‘live’ next week whereby students will be able to exchange points for rewards.  There will be a questionnaire issued to students in tutor time next week for them to feedback the types of rewards they want – it is important they have a voice on this initiative.

Following last week’s communication regarding uniform I am pleased to see that students are wearing their uniform correctly.  Thank you for your continued support on this matter.

Finally, I am delighted to share the progress of some of our reading champions in Year 7 and Year 8.  At school we are pushing hard for all students to enjoy reading.  Reading can come in many forms whether it is a book, magazine, match report, recipe, website or blog… the possibilites are endless and any reading is a positive!  Students access a programme called Accelerated Reader to assess their progress.  At the end of last term we had a group of students who joined the 100% club – those who successfully achieved 100% in every reading assessment they completed during the Autumn term.  Well done to Archie in Year 8 for winning the first prize of a Kindle, along with Lilly, Alice, Dylan and Olivia who were all awarded prizes.  Keep up the good work!  We start afresh this term, so get reading!

Have a very pleasant weekend.

Kind regards
