The largest UK National Enterprise Challenge!

Back to News

Year 9 students took part in the UK's largest National Enterprise Challenge to learn more about entrepreneurship and to develop their key skills.

Working in small groups, 45 teams had to create a new ‘Carb Killa’ bar with full marketing and social media support from leading nutrition and healthy snacks company Grenade. The tasks were ably led by a team from the Inspirational Learning Group, who delivered some brilliant, interactive activities and offered guidance throughout the morning.

We also welcomed representatives from the BGL group, Sarah and Kelly, who will help to mentor the winning team through to the finals in July and formed part of the judging panel. Teams had to develop an idea for a new healthy chocolate bar, determine a flavour combination, explore design, marketing and branding, put together an advert and slogan, ready for presentation – all by lunchtime! A  shortlist of just three teams was determined by the National Challenge team and after lunch the finalists made their presentations to a panel of judges.

The three shortlisted teams were Groups 12, 22 and 34 from 9GRJ, 9PLS and 9WCN.

All three teams provided a great range of ideas and were confident in their presentations, receiving very positive feedback from the judges. After much deliberation and a very close contest, team 22 with their ‘Lemon Heaven’ product was chosen to represent the school at the National Finals in July in Birmingham, to compete against other schools from across the UK.

Liam, Delivery Manager from the National Enterprise Challenge team said: “All have demonstrated exceptional enterprise and employability skills and are up there with other schools we’ve been to across the country. This is testament to the whole year group’s work ethic

The winning team from 9PLS is made up of
Emma Phillips, Katie Marsh, Pippa Everton, Nick Bosma,
Gabriel Kerr and Daniel Foreman
– well done to all team members and to the entire year group for engaging with all the activities and working hard to develop their teambuilding and communication skills. Watch this space for more details of the finals event over the coming months!
